In this activity, kids study a collection of images of various pathogens (bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa). Through a series of challenges, students are asked to sort and classify; identify images that have been colorized; compare the sizes of various microorganisms; and compare photos of models to the real thing. This is a great introductory activity to the study of germs, microbes, and the immune system.
Use this to learn and reinforce answers to questions such as:
❑ What does the word germ mean to a biologist?
❑ How do we classify microorganisms?
❑ Are all microorganisms harmful?
Once students try this activity, they can capture their observations using the included Lab Notes or probing questions included in the instructions.
