Electric Circuits Activity—Investigating Resistance in Series Circuits

In this lab student start with a series of twinkle lights in a circuit and remove them one at a time. This activity gives experience with series circuits as well as simple drawing of these. 

 

Answer Keys and Teacher Notes address most questions and issues that might arise in this study—you shouldn’t have to do any outside research unless you want to. 

 

Concepts Addressed

♦ There is a limit to how many lamps one battery can light

♦ Lights in a series circuit share voltage equally

♦ The more lights added to the same circuit, the more dimly those lights will shine

 

Materials Needed

two 1.5 V battery, 2 battery holders, 2 alligator clips, 5+ twinkle lights

 

Time Required

This lab takes about 40 mins.
